The Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity at Duke University is a research hub dedicated to studying all dimensions of disparity and developing solutions to address them. Named after Duke’s first tenured Black professor, the Cook Center explores the causes and consequences of inequality and formulates strategies to mitigate these disparities and their negative impacts.

To better showcase their important work, the Cook Center turned to Kompleks Creative for a website redesign that would make complex research more digestible and accessible. The goal was to create a site that was both informative and easy to navigate.

Using insights from Google Analytics, we assessed the website’s performance and reorganized the information architecture to improve usability. To reflect the center’s rich history, we incorporated black-and-white photography throughout the website design, giving the site a clean, elegant aesthetic that resonates with its legacy.

The result is a thoughtfully crafted website that balances accessibility with depth, making it easy for users to explore the Cook Center’s work and contributions to social equity.
