Attracting Researchers
As the youngest of the nation’s top medical schools, Duke School of Medicine takes pride in being a community of outstanding learners, investigators, clinicians and staff where traditional barriers are low, interdisciplinary collaboration is embraced and great ideas accelerate translation of fundamental scientific discoveries to improve human health locally and around the globe. Over the past few years, Kompleks Creative has had the pleasure to collaborate on three website development projects within the school.
The Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at Duke University participates in collaborative research and provides direction for four educational degree programs. The goal for the department’s website was to provide information and resources for current and prospective students, as well as to serve as a nexus for research teams and related departments. Kompleks Creative's redesign strategy focused on developing a more streamlined information architecture and an appealing, forward-thinking design.
We used a youthful color palette and large photos to add visual appeal while completely overhauling the navigation to create a more positive user experience (UX). Faculty, students and researchers can now access the information they need and interact with the department in a more effective, intuitive way. By utilizing Drupal as the content management system (CMS), the team can easily execute updates to the website.
The primary mission of the Department of Pathology at Duke University Hospital School of Medicine is to support world class medical care by providing outstanding anatomic and clinical pathology services to patients and clinicians. As one of the founding departments when Duke Hospital opened in 1930, it has a rich history and is responsible for over 50,000 surgical pathology specimens per year, and 7 million laboratory tests.
In 2016, the department found that their website did not reflect the excellence of the patient care, research and education programs, and cutting edge facilities offered. Keeping the School of Medicine brand at the forefront, we designed and developed a website that used large images and calls-to-action to guide users through the website. To drive traffic to the website and achieve optimal performance, we also performed search engine optimization and copy editing. With Drupal integration, updating the website’s content is simple for the team.
The Duke Center for Statistical Genetics and Genomics creates an environment in which computational and statistical researchers throughout the university can come together to address critical gaps in their ability to deliver on the promises of the “genomic revolution” in medicine and, as a result, establish Duke as a leading center of genomic focused statistical and computational methods development. As a newly formed center in the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, the leadership team wanted a website that highlighted the working groups and fostered collaboration. Kompleks Creative incorporated strong visual stimulants and microinteractions into the website development to keep visitors engaged as they seek information. To achieve the project objectives, we identified ways to highlight working group content on nearly every page of the website. With WordPress integration, updating the website’s content is effortless for the team.
