Proud Durhamite Pierce Freelon is a triple threat: educator, musician and self-proclaimed “ARTVST.”

Pierce, front man of the jazz and hip hop-inspired The Beast, wanted an online hub where he could combine and share his separate, yet interconnected interests. The challenge was to merge these content-rich interests into a website that was both non-traditional, intuitive and reflective of Pierce’s dynamism.

We settled on a Bauhaus-inspired design that allowed for an architectural structure, yet experimental quality. Expressive word treatments, clean lines and stacked content helped us set the tone for the website’s aesthetic. Parallax scrolling, a popular trend in website development at the time, added a level of playfulness common of Bauhaus design. Pierce’s triple threats were ultimately manifested through photographs, illustrative graphics, embedded videos and music downloads.
